It is alleged that police attempted to stop a speeding 17-year-old near the intersection of Keller Avenue and B Street in Elmont on Monday, July 6, who attempted to flee.
Police said that the teen proceeded to strike a parked car, causing damage, pushing it into a second parked vehicle. When officers pulled behind the teen, he proceeded to place his car in reverse, intentionally striking the police cruiser, striking the parked car again, and speeding away.
The officer in the cruiser sustained a contusion to his right shoulder, “substantial pain to his neck and left shoulder,” and was transported to an area hospital for treatment, police said.
According to police, the teen was eventually tracked down shortly thereafter at the corner of Terry Place and Garvin Boulevard in Franklin Square, where he was arrested.
The teenager was charged with:
- Assault;
- Criminal mischief;
- Reckless endangerment;
- Reckless driving;
- Unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a motor vehicle;
- Leaving the scene of an accident with injury.
The teenager was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday, July 7 in Mineola.
